They say the sky's the limit, and to me that's really true:
My friends you have seen nothin'- just wait 'till I get through...
Who's Bad?!
I had big plans for quite some time, dating back years, to do some portraits of Michael and open this Gallery in his honor; but I had always put it on the back burner and worked on one of my other subjects. When MJ died suddenly and tragically on June 25, 2009, I was devastated and shocked into action, though extremely regretful that I had not done this work sooner.
There is no doubt that Michael Jackson is a great art subject: a dramatic, brilliant life force, a talented singer, songwriter and performer; and decked out with outrageous costumes and sky-high theatrics, he definitely speaks to the edgy, imaginative artistic soul. So in keeping with that, I am creating these highly inspired pieces of original, tangible art, and through it, may Michael's bright spirit live on.
"What one wishes is to be touched by the truth and to be able to interpret that truth so that one may use what one is feeling and experiencing, be it despair or joy, in a way that will add meaning to one's life and will hopefully touch others as well. This is art in it's highest form." ~ Michael Jackson
Another Part of Me
As with all my art subjects, my interpretations of Michael are hand-drawn and traditionally painted, no digital photo manipulation or anything. Just old fashioned realism/surrealism, meticulously detailed by hand, with acrylic paint, charcoal, pencils or pastels, and the occasional mixed media/etching (example at left). Every piece you see here represents weeks of work, sometimes months. Also like my other subjects, this is a labor of love. I have always been very fond of MJ and I hope it shows in this artwork.
